Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile plant materials, known as essential oils, and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering a person's mind, mood, cognitive function or health.
In addition to essential oils, aromatherapy encourages the use of other complementary natural ingredients including cold pressed vegetable oils, jojoba (a liquid wax), herbs, milk powders, sea salts, sugars clays and mud.
Essential oils are volatile aromatic essences produced by hundreds of plants. Most people are familiar with aromatic plants that store their essence in the flower. There are many other plants that store their essential oil in the leaves, peel, root, bark or seed, which determines the part of the plant that is gathered for distillation. Each plant has its own unique characteristics.
